Non-Degrading Finishes
The reaction to fire of materials and wood in particular is always assessed before any finishing. And in order not to "lose" the fire classification of the material, it is therefore advisable to use a so-called non-downgrading finish.
For interior uses, there are non-downgrading varnishes or paints often misused as "M1 varnishes" or "M1 paints". For exterior uses, two other constraints are added: weather resistance and UV resistance.
